The San Francisco

You never completely forget the feeling of anticipating a performance, but after four months things can become a bit hazy.

It might have been the amount of time in a recording studio, or the lack of playing together as a unit, traveling and meeting new people. Worrying about tempos and tones versus drum circles and intros… Whatever it was, December 17th was a quick blur that turned into a very memorable night.

Our performance in San Francisco was a welcomed change of pace.

Not even finished with recording, we packed up our gear and moved back in to our own studio. With only two weeks to get ready for the show, tension was high. I had this weird sensation that we forgot how to be a band. From summer 08 – summer 09 we played more shows than the previous 5 years combined. Things started to gel and it opened up new doors for us. After an exciting experience down in Hollywood, and some Rainbow Room action, we moved into downtown San Jose to record three songs.

None of us really knew what to expect as far as a performance goes, but one thing for sure was that we all needed some fun. The night just felt right, sound check had a really good flow and we were set to go. Once Ben Henderson, Endika, and Anthony started their set, I knew we had a great night ahead of us.

The crowd was fully engaged, the subs were kicking, and Eric was drunk… it was the perfect storm. Long story short, thank you for joining us this week in San Francisco. We are looking forward to sharing our new music with you. By next year, we want to be in Europe recording our full length debut.

I see something coming up at the Blank Club soon, a little taste of San Jose to connect with our roots.

Until then… See you in 2010

Sunday Morning.

A special shout out to our good friend Benjamin Henderson.

Last night I caught a very special set of his at gallery AD for his new solo release. It was an amazing performance, one of the best I have seen in a while.

It was great to see everyone out, Anthony Olyaee, Dan McKee (good hus) and Endika (panthelion) all joined in.

Everyone who has ever inspired me to play music was there last night, and just wanted to mention what a wonderful evening it was.

You can check out Ben's music at http://benjaminhenderson.bandcamp.com/

Bottom of the Viper Room?

Hello World.

A recap for those who are in the know of now from then.

Two wonderful shows... Bottom of the Hill & The Viper Room last week

Our fourth show at bottom of the hill was definitely the strongest to date. We were fortunate to join a very strong bill with Overview (SF). We met so many new fans that heard us on live 105 and online (thank you Aaron) If your ever in Potrero Hill, check out Goat Hill pizza. We scored a free cake from Tartine from a couple that just got engaged...it was amazing.

A few glasses of Syrah later, we hit the stage to a packed house. We started the night off with "The Pilgrimage" into some other new, but familiar songs and ended with a bang on the drums. Overview finished off the night with some sweet classic rock sounds

After a long night had turned to morning, we made it home. Got ready for our very anticipated LA Debut at the Viper Room. A quick shot down 5 took us straight to sunset blvd.

I knew we were in LA when I noticed a million cars and nobody wondering by foot. After load in/soundcheck, we hung around hollywood for a bit... a little more anxious than normal.

We hit the stage and played some new songs for the first time... to a very receptive crowd. After the set, we made our way to the famous Rainbow Room next to the Roxy.

As of now, we have entered a new chapter in our efforts. The band will be diving into recording for the next few months... which will be out before the end of the year. It is a much welcomed pace, from the craziness that was 2008-2009.

From last summer until now, we have self recorded/released our first EP, shot a music video, performed our first of many SF shows at Bottom of the Hill, worked with several amazing musicians and promoters, released two mouths on Live 105, played 50 shows.. including many art festivals, parties, cafe du nord, hotel utah, BFD, Left Coast Live, viper room, laguna seca and more...

Thank you for the amazing support. We look forward to finishing the year on a strong note

New Years Eve party maybe?

All the best,
Kayhan

Music in May with Mate'

Music in May with Mate'

Writing new music is like preparing a new dish.

Playing an old song feels like seeing an old friend.

Its a busy time full of potential. Days feel like hours, weeks seem like one big to do list. On my list for this week is to share with everyone our ups n downs, latest n' greatest, secret and obvious means of existence.

The first thing that comes to mind is all of the performances. April was "play two shows a week" month. Its been a warm experience playing the variety of shows recently.

This month we are working with the masterminds of Left Coast Live, which is San Jose's new premier music festival (think SXSW but here) that is happening next week. Ambience, teamed up with Live 105, is performing a free BFD/Left Coast Live pre-party show at the Blank Club.

Left Coast Live/Live 105 Present: An evening with Ambience
May 13th The Blank Club
Free. 9pm 21+
44 S. Almaden Ave San Jose

The main festival will follow on Friday night the 15th, our counterparts Good Hustle will be hitting the main stage that night.

This Saturday you can catch an all ages show in San Jose at a rather promiscuous venue they call Nickel City. We are playing with a bunch of bands from Seattle that are on tour. Should be a great night.

Saturday May 9th
Nickle City 7pm
1711 Branham Ln SJ

Word on the street is were also doing an Acoustic performance in Saratoga soon... Then BFD

... as for summer.... were pushing for Spain to record our album, but we might have to wait until spring.

Many thanks...

For all those in the GRAPHIC ARTS... were printing a limited edition BFD shirt. Were opening the canvas to you.

Submit your designs via email by Monday 5/11. The selected design gets free music and a pass to BFD

Deep Inside The Sun...

Finally, a break from cold and dark. Although I like rainy weather, 2 months was enough for me. Sitting in the sun makes we want to write nonsense about playing music with my band. So, carrying on...

Spring is around the corner, and were getting ready for some exciting stuff. This month we have a very cool show at the lovely Hotel Utah in San Francisco. We are also playing with some experimental bands in Los Gatos.

For the entire month of April, we will be in Santa Cruz doing a handful of shows every weekend around town and on the beach, as well as watching some cool ones (fleet foxes?) So all you drum circle folk join in on the fun

May will take us to Berkeley, as well as a weekend in Chico, which im really stoked on.

And June... we will find out soon...
but we do know were doing something in Livermore which is pretty sweet. Ive never been to downtown livermore, but we have played in walnut creek (similar?)

Anyways, be sure to catch us soon at one of the shows around the Bay. Thank you for the amazing support. I want to shout out to Aaron Axelsen who has been wonderful in supporting and exposing our sound. Thank you to Panthelion and David Knight for wisdom and guidance, and to our friends and family.

If your 21 or older and you like western style bars, join us at the Hotel Utah March 27th. We are performing with our friends from Panthelion and a new artist we discovered, Bhi Bhiman.

Our online store goes up on sunday night for all you merch loving people, if shirts aren't your thing we also have some decals for your car, if cars aren't your thing then just leave us a comment, if online social networking isn't your thing its cool i'm not really into it either.

acoustic show. success.

acoustic show. success.

Friday night in downtown SJ turned out to be a romantic evening at the lovely Caffe' Trieste. We played 7 songs, stripped down to just acoustic instruments. We had a great response from a warm audience.

A special thank you to Eddie who put the show together, and promoted it very well. We will definitely be throwing in some more acoustic shows, our next will be in Feb. at Red Rock cafe in Mountain View.

Whats coming, whats going...

Were adding and subtracting things from the live set constantly, but we are all definitely excited for our show on thursday at the Voodoo Lounge 1/29. There might be an old song or two you might recognize

A summer tour is definitely in the works, planning is commencing. Hitting the road will open us up to some new experiences and audiences.

An online store is also underway for all of you out of town folks interested in the usual, CD, shirts, pins and the soon to be kayhan/ambience tea company. Also we will be doing a limited run of prints from artist Mike Kury, who does all of our graphics.

Episode Two: Ambience Strikes Back

Bottom of the hill. Episode two "Ambience strikes back"

Thank you for joining us yet again in the lovely San Francisco last night. We were welcomed with beautiful weather and a wonderful crowd of people. I think its safe to say the band has officially stepped into the SF scene, although it was a room made up of mostly south bay folk, who rock, mixed with a few SF'ers and a couple from maine that found us online.

Last night was especially memorable for me, as I was able to share the evening with some of my best friends, musicians, and family. I was honored to share the stage with Endika, Laxman, Jeff and David Knight of Panthelion. They started the show off and blew everyones minds, period. Our studio mates and jam mastas of Good Hustle ended the night with a well put together intro to the club by walkin through the front door, followed by a eloquent rap about 2009. Gavin Drew and Mark of dredg made an appearance with some friends, it was great to see them enjoying the show with us. They are a common friendship that certainly bonds us all.

Our set was definitely interesting, I felt overall it was a success. We had a few technical issues here and there, mostly stemming from lack of preparation due to being on vacation and all. We started the show on a new drum intro, which is still in its infancy, but adds a nice touch. I think the highlights were the new songs and our drum circle outro.

A noteable event was that our trailer managed to not get closed properly, and opened on 280 on the way home. Antroms brand new twin amp vanished into oblivion, luckily nothing else fell out. Hes going to be ok, just send him your love.

We have some fun things coming our way, were playing a special acoustic set friday 1/16 at Barefoot Coffee in Santa Clara. If your in the area, come stop by and enjoy a matte, thats usually where i write these blogs. Although right now im watching heima at home with an empty tea mug.

I recently discovered a band from Seattle which demonstrates my true love for 70's folk rock (CSNY, Neil Young, Bob Dylan ect) Check out the Fleet Foxes... give them a good listen. I was watching current TV's La Blogotheque, they were featured on this french music video blog show, perfoming music in random places. I was truly touched by these guys over the past few days.

Were playing a line up of acoustic gigs, while we continue to write and evolve. Tune in to soundcheck this sunday on live 105 (7-10) and come to the Hotel Utah march 27th

Peace Love Oneness and Red Stripe

-Kayhan
